For Language Arts, we are focusing on word origins, historical fiction, regular and plural nouns, and prefixes. Our Spelling Words focus on irregular plural words. In Language Arts, please continue to make sure your child is reading their AR books at home to help in increase their reading comprehension.
For Math, we begin chapter 5. This chapter focuses on multiplication and division facts. Please be sure your child is practicing their times table facts. This is helpful for learning their division facts as well since division is the opposite of multiplication. (We also use multiplication facts throughout the year for math, so it is important that it is something your child is strong in.)

Information about students' planners.
Hello Parents,
I just wanted to point out that inside the students' planners I have them write their "Behavior Color." Their "Behavior Color" is my classroom management chart. I have a lot of positive awards to motivate the students (IE raffle tickets, class points, table points, and Pawsitive Paws.) However, I use the Behavior Chart to discourage constant inappropriate classroom behavior. The "Behavior Chart" progression is Green, Blue, Yellow, White, and finally RED. It is my goal that the students end the day on Green or Blue. I have the students write in their planner what their ending color is of the day. Please encourage them at home to end on Green or Blue. The class overall has been doing this really well, but I just thought I would post about the "Behavior Chart."
Also, in the student planners, I put a "check mark" in the day that they use the bathroom during class time. If they spend more then 5 minutes in the bathroom, I will circle the check mark to indicate that. Please be sure your child is not having 3 or more check marks to use the bathroom each day.

Hello Parents,
This week we are working on algebra rules in math. For example, find the missing number in the equation 2+y=5, and we learn that y=3 because 2+3=5. We are also learning about balancing equations. For example, 5+2+4=1+10. We have a math test on Friday covering Chapter 3 in Math. Be sure to use the math website resources to learn more about our math lessons this week.
In Language Arts, we are learning about related words, main idea and details, graphic organizers, clauses, complex sentences, and our story writing genre will be narrative nonfiction. We will review what we know about suffixes, compound words, and fact and opinion.

Now, this resource will let you view the entire math textbook at home. ALSO, it will allow you to print out the homework we do and give you additional math pages for practice. (To get to homework you will need to click on the "Table of Contents"; then you will click on the little gray arrow next to whichever chapter you want the homework for; a list will drop down from the arrow; click on whichever lesson we are working on (IE 14-6); then click on the "Resources" button which is next to the "Table of Contents" button; finally, homework and additional practice resources will appear for you to view.) If your child "forgets" his or her homework, you can still have him or her do it if you have an internet connection.

This resource has some videos that reteach the lesson we are on. There are also extra practice problems, and sometimes math games available for a lesson.
