CORRECTION ON SPELLING AND VOCABULARY WORDS
Hello parents,
I made a mistake when I blogged the spelling words and vocabulary words. The actual words this week have been sent home to your students on a hard copy. I also had the students copy down the spelling words into their planners.
If your child does not have a planner, he or she needs to buy at new one at school. These planners are essential for students to be organized and be able to complete homework. From my experience, the students that do not have planners turn in a lot less homework, and usually the students that turn in less homework do not perform as well on the test as those who do. So please check to see if your son or daughter has a planner and is using it. We use them every day at class. We also never complete homework in class. Homework is meant for home.
Have a good week preparing for the Thanksgiving Holiday,
Mr. Higgins

Newletter (11/22)
Hello parents,
Math
This week we are going to begin Chapter 10 in our math textbooks (ca.gr4math.com). There is A LOT to memorize in this chapter. We will be learning about shapes, lines, prisms and much more. Please be sure that your child has a spiral notebook to be taking math notes. This will be important so he or she can refer back to them as we have a lot to memorize in this chapter of math.
Also, it is EXTREMELY important your son or daughter knows the multiplication table. Some students had great difficulty with long division because they have a poor understanding of their times tables. I would suggest you take time at home to test your own child on their times tables and a few long division problems to see how you can help them at home. This website has some times tables to look at TIMES TABLES
There are also goofy long division games you can have your child practice on at home. Such as this one http://www.kidsnumbers.com/long-division.php
Language Arts
This week is a short week so we have half of the spelling words that we will test on Wednesday. However, we still have to do our weekly language arts test. (Remember the weekly tests have three sections, Vocabulary, Word Analysis, and Reading comprehension.) The class as a whole can work on their reading comprehension skills. At the end of this sentence I will have a link to a reading comprehension quiz you can give to your child for fun for extra practice. Reading Comprehension Practice
We won't have time to finish our weekly writing stories this week because of the two days off. However, we are working on Expository Non-fiction stories. (These are stories that inform readers about factual information.)
Extras:
Winter Program: The Winter Program is on:
When: Tuesday, December 7, 2010
Time: 5:30 P.M. is show time; students will need to report at 5:15 P.M. to be lined up.
Where: T.V.I.S. Multi-purpose room
(The music teacher game me permission slips to send home if your child could make it or not.)
