Math
This week we are going to begin Chapter 10 in our math textbooks (ca.gr4math.com). There is A LOT to memorize in this chapter. We will be learning about shapes, lines, prisms and much more. Please be sure that your child has a spiral notebook to be taking math notes. This will be important so he or she can refer back to them as we have a lot to memorize in this chapter of math.
Also, it is EXTREMELY important your son or daughter knows the multiplication table. Some students had great difficulty with long division because they have a poor understanding of their times tables. I would suggest you take time at home to test your own child on their times tables and a few long division problems to see how you can help them at home. This website has some times tables to look at TIMES TABLES
There are also goofy long division games you can have your child practice on at home. Such as this one http://www.kidsnumbers.com/long-division.php
Language Arts
This week is a short week so we have half of the spelling words that we will test on Wednesday. However, we still have to do our weekly language arts test. (Remember the weekly tests have three sections, Vocabulary, Word Analysis, and Reading comprehension.) The class as a whole can work on their reading comprehension skills. At the end of this sentence I will have a link to a reading comprehension quiz you can give to your child for fun for extra practice. Reading Comprehension Practice
We won't have time to finish our weekly writing stories this week because of the two days off. However, we are working on Expository Non-fiction stories. (These are stories that inform readers about factual information.)
