Spelling/ Vocabulary/ and writing for the week (1/10-1/14)

Vocabulary *These definitions are tested on Friday. They are found in our story we will be reading this week called Encantado: Pink Dolphin of the Amazon.
a-quar-i-um: Building used for showing collections of live fish, water animals, and water plants.
dol-phins: Any of numerous sea mammals related to the whale, but smaller. Dolphins have beaklike snouts and remarkable intelligence.
en-chant-ed: Delighted greatly; charmed.
flex-i-ble: Easily bent; not stiff; bending without breaking.
glimps-es: Short, quick views or looks.
puls-es: Regular, measured beats.
sur-face: The top of the ground or soil, or of a body of water or other liquid.

Weekly Writing ( Each week in class, we work on completing a story that is due on Friday)
Writing Genre: Expository Nonficiton
This week we will write a composition that presents information to explain a mysterious animal behavior. The student will choose one of the mysterious animal behaviors that I have provided. Then they will write a composition to share what they have learned with readers. This type of writing about the real world is called expository nonfiction.

Math
The math chapter we are in is chapter 12 (ca.gr4math.com). In this chapter students are introduced to positive and negative numbers. They are also introduced to graphing and plotting on a graph that has a y-axis and an x-axis.
