Schwa Words: A vowel that gives no clue to its spelling is a schwa. Look at the word giant, for example. The letter i is pronounced with the long I sound, but the letter a has a pronunciation that is difficult to define.

Vocabulary Words
1. thicket-
a thick or dense growth of shrubs, bushes, or small trees.2. depart-to go away; leave.3.trudged-to walk, especially laboriously or wearily: to trudge up a long flight of steps.

. essential-absolutely necessary; indispensable: Discipline is essential in an army.
5. shaft-a vertical passageway into a mine  
6. quivered-to shake with a slight but rapid motion; vibrate tremulously; tremble.
7. aviator-a pilot of an airplane or other heavier-than-air aircraft.

Grammar: Conjunctions. Words that connect sentences, phrases, and clauses together. Examples: For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so.
