Spelling: Complete one of the spelling homework options. (Turn all spelling homework stapled to the spelling contract on Friday. The spelling contract is going to be sent home Monday. Here is what it looks like. Spelling Contract
Explanation of Homework
First, I DO NOT let students finish homework in class, and homework will be practice of what we are doing at school.
I keep a running record of all homework completed.
Math Homework: We will have math homework most everyday to complete and turn in the next day. We go over the math homework in class and correct it as a class. The student's write the number of how many missed and the percentage on the top of the paper. Student's then take the homework home to show their parents how they are doing and may discard their homework if they wish.
Spelling Homework: Students are given a list of spelling homework options to complete each night. These are not all due until Friday. So if a student doesn't complete his or her spelling homework on Monday. He or she can make it up before Friday. All four spelling homework assignments are turned in stapled to the "Spelling Contract" on Friday. Here is a link to the "Spelling Contract."
Reading: The school has a school-wide rule that the students will read for 30 minutes each afternoon. The students are given a reading log to complete for each night they read. Parents need to sign it. The reading log is turned in on Friday.(Reading Log)
****Homework Duration: I have read that the rule for homework in elementary school is that it should be approximately 10 minutes times the grade level they are in. So fourth grade homework should last approximately (4 X 10 = 40) 40 minutes. So about 20 minutes of Spelling and 20 minutes of Math. (If you notice your child is overwhelmed because he or she is spending way too much time on homework. You may stop and send in a note that your child spent about an hour doing homework and didn't have time to finish.) (The 40 minutes doesn't include the reading time.)

Friday's Homework 8/5
Students need to write their name, address, and phone number on pg 104 of their planners.
They should also memorize that information.
Also, I am writing check marks in the students' planners if they use the bathroom during class time. The check mark will have a circle around it if they spent more than 5 minutes in the restroom. The check mark will be located in the same area and date that they write their homework. You may write any notes you have for me in their planners and initial them each day to show you have seen it.
